The Red Light District in Amsterdam is in a neighborhood called De Wallen. Amsterdam has long been a place of tolerance (with brief periods of Calvinist religious fervour), and vices such as prostitution, gambling and "soft drugs" such as alcohol and marijuana have generally been permitted, either openly or given a blind eye.
Most sex workers don't seem so enthusiastic about their work; usually they are playing on their phones.
To be honest, I can't see how many people actually do business with the sex workers in the windows (known as the kamers). They have to discuss business out in the open, and there are thousands of tourists walking through the crowded streets, all snapping photos.
The crowd literally pushes you through the alleys, so I don't think it would be possible to stop, even if you were a voyeur.
During the day there are less people, but also less workers.
Though, I saw a legion of heroes stopping by.
I believe there is a banana for scale there.
