My wife, the illustrious Baobei Funky Feng and I recently made a trip to Stockholm to visit some friends. As part of my series, Sauce's Super Svenska Guide to Sweden - Skol!, I present, The Ladugårdsgärdet and Kaknästornet, the Great Swedish Park, and a TV-tower Cafe!
My wife and I were lucky enough to visit friends in Stockholm this fall (early Oct). Sweden is an awesome place to visit-- people are extremely nice, and it's not a huge tourist destination, probably because of the cost, which can be fairly extensive. Also considering Oct. is a cooler time in Sweden, people may not want to visit. It rained a few times, but really it isn't too cold so as long as you're ok with wearing a light jacket and carrying an umbrella.
The Ladugårdsgärdet, also known as just Gärdet, is a large garden in the eastern part of Stockholm, the Ostermalm. The garden used to be a military training area from 1672, but was abandoned around 1900 and used as an airport for land and sea planes, until ground based planes became more prevalent and necessitated the building of nearby Bromma airport. Nowadays the park is surrounded by high class homes, embassies, and museums. The park is used for horse-riding, so watch your step! At the edge of the park you can see the large TV tower, the Kaknästornet, or Kaknäs Tower, taking the ancient name for the area, Kaknäs.

The park is quite large, and with overgrown greenery everywhere:
If you lived nearby, it would be a great place for a jog:
Here is a tree where Scandinavian devotees hang sacrifices during blots:
Around the neighborhood you can see embassies, museums and fancy homes:
You can have a nice Fika or lunch up on in the Kaknas TV tower:
The ride to the top costs 55 SEK/ person, ~$7.50:
It's a bit pricey but lunch isn't too expensive.
The site offers panoramas of Stockholm:
But they put a ridiculous chain-link fence up that blocks your view:
The chain link fence makes it a very safe visit...
It's pretty crappy though since the fence runs around the whole viewing area...
You do get some great shots from the restaurant though:
If you look westward from the tower you can see Stockholm:
You can see how much water plays a part in the city's landscape:East is more of the archipelago:
North are suburbs and industrial areas:
It's quite a beautiful place:
I hope you enjoyed! If you did, consider liking me on Facebook, it would really make my day!
